If you’re new to SharePoint you’re going to want to learn about ULS (stands for Unified Logging Service) logs early on. Most everything that happens in SharePoint is logged here in some form or another. These logs will save your life when you’re trouble shooting or debugging issues. So where are these infamous logs found you ask? Unless installation was scripted and configured differently, the logs are always in the LOGS folder under the main SharePoint folder with only a version difference changing the location.
Here’s where they are by default for the different versions:
|SharePoint Version||File System Location|
|2007||C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\LOGS|
|2010||C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS|
|2013||C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS|
